Canada Liberals take poll lead, first time in months
OTTAWA |
OTTAWA Jan 28 (Reuters) - Canada's opposition Liberal Party has pulled narrowly ahead of the ruling Conservatives for the first time in several months, an Ekos poll released on Thursday found.
The Conservatives have seen their lead eroded after Prime Minister Stephen Harper decided a month ago to have Parliament suspended until March 3. Ekos said the focus on Haiti in the last two weeks has not rescued the Conservatives.
The poll puts the Liberals at 31.6 percent and the Conservatives at 31.1 percent. The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 1.8 percentage points.
Most people do not expect the Liberals to try to force an election for some time, but the results are likely to make them bolder. (Reporting by Randall Palmer, editing by Alan Elsner)

On December 10th Parliament ordered the Harper Government to immediately hand over any documents pertaining to the Afghan detainees. On December 11th, they announced that they would not.
No government since confederation has refused a Parliamentary Order. If the Government does not obey Parliament then we simply do not have a democracy.
I suspect the reason that they have much of their 31% is that most Canadians have not been informed that the government is, for all intents and purposes, in contempt of Parliament.
