News Corp settles with Valassis for $500 million

NEW YORK Sun Jan 31, 2010 1:14pm EST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - News Corp said it settled a lawsuit by Valassis Communications Inc for $500 million after deciding it may have difficulty presenting its case to a jury.

Valassis, a distributor of newspaper inserts, already won $300 million in damages in a lawsuit against News Corp subsidiary News America Marketing for engaging in unfair competition, and more trials were pending.

News Corp said on Saturday the settlement also covers the $300 million.

It is about time someone put the opinion paper in its place. They have used half truths, left out important information and words and added ambiguous statements and called it news far too long.
They have simpleton answer for every thing and present A MISCHARITZATION OF THE NEWS.

Well, the penalty was not for misrepresenting almost everything they ‘report,’ (and Murdoch should thank the First Amendment for that every time he passes a church–or a newsstand). But i might have wished it were so, if i were not such a lover of that same amendment.
But it’s hard not to take pleasure in any punishment at all dealt to Murdoch and fox for the damage they do to our country.
