HUD's Donovan says Obama admin to outline GSE plan soon

WASHINGTON | Mon Feb 1, 2010 1:33pm EST

WASHINGTON Feb 1 (Reuters) - The Obama administration will soon outline its vision for the future structure of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan said on Monday.

"There will be a statement forthcoming very shortly," Donovan told reporters on a conference call about housing components of the White House budget proposal released earlier Monday.

Donovan said the administration had pledged to release its vision for the firms, known as government sponsored enterprises, "around the time of the budget," not necessarily "in the budget."

The Obama administration had a single sentence in the budget on the future of the GSEs, pledging to monitor the situation closely.
