TOKYO Feb 2 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) has issued a string of recalls that covers 8.1 million vehicles worldwide for risks of unintended acceleration.
Following is a regional breakdown of the recalls caused by a faulty accelerator pedal, manufactured by U.S. supplier CTS Corp (CTS.N) to Toyota's specifications.
Toyota has said the problem does not affect its vehicles sold in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, excluding China.
The recalls, spanning eight models in the United States, Toyota's biggest market, include the top-selling Camry and Corolla sedans.
United States: 2.21 million vehicles
Canada: 270,000 vehicles
Europe: 1.71 million vehicles
China: 75,552 vehicles
*Other: 180,000 vehicles
------------------------------------
Total: approx 4.45 million vehicles
(*Middle East, Central and South America, Africa)
Toyota has also issued a separate recall covering 5.35 million vehicles in the United States and 400,000 vehicles in Canada (total 5.75 million vehicles) to address a risk that floor mats in the vehicles can come loose and trap the accelerator pedal.
About 2.1 million vehicles are covered in both recalls, bringing the total number of recalls related to the two issues to 8.1 million. (Source: Toyota Motor Corp) (Reporting by Chang-Ran Kim; Editing by Chris Gallagher)
