Feb 4 (Reuters) - Regal Beloit Corp (RBC.N), which makes power generators for heating and airconditioning products, Wednesday reported quarterly results that beat Wall Street expectations, helped by cost reductions measures, and gave first-quarter earnings outlook above estimates.
The company forecast first-quarter earnings between 76 cents and 84 cents a share. Analysts on average were expecting earnings of 62 cents a share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
"We expect to see improving markets for our products in the first quarter of 2010 versus the first quarter of 2009, primarily as a result of somewhat stronger international markets and the absence of the inventory destocking we experienced in 2009," Chief Executive Henry Knueppel said in a statement.
For the fourth quarter ended Jan. 2, the company reported net income of $34.7 million, or 90 cents a share, compared with $20.6 million, or 63 cents a share, a year ago.
Revenue for the quarter fell 4 percent at $463.3 million.
Analysts on average were expecting the company to earn 64 cents a share, before special items, on revenue of $434.6 million.
Shares of the Beloit, Wisconsin-based company had closed at $49.64 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Fareha Khan in Bangalore; Editing by Maju Samuel)
