IQALUIT, Canada Feb 5 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner agreed with his new Japanese counterpart on Friday they must give priority to enacting financial-market reforms that stabilize the global economy.

Geithner met Japanese Finance Minister Naoto Kan for a half hour immediately after arriving in Iqaluit for a weekend Group of Seven meeting.

"They...discussed their shared priority of achieving comprehensive financial reform in cooperation with the G7, G20 and Financial Stability Board," a U.S. statement issued afterward said.

They also agreed they had to do whatever was necessary "to support growth and recovery in the wake of the global financial crisis," but offered no details on what measures they would take.
