PARIS (Reuters) - Iran has rejected Western overtures and the international community has no choice but to move toward imposing new sanctions over its nuclear program, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Monday.

"We must still try and find a peaceful way to resolve this issue. The only path that is left to us at this point, it seems to me, is that pressure track but it will require all of the international community to work together," Gates said at a joint news conference with French Defense Minister Herve Morin.

US is really not keen on peace with Iran. They alone in the ME can stand up to Israel so why do US worry ? Let Israel get together with Iran and make peace.

I am sure the iranians are terrified of gates and obama. Sanctions do not work! They did not work with Iraq, and without China and Russia’s support, they will be meaningless. Iran is just playing a stalling game until they finally have nukes, and then it will be too late. America/the West need decisive leadership, not the pansified wimps we have right now, but then again, what would you expect from an administration who’s main military priority is allowing homosexuals to serve in the military. If I was iran, n. korea, china, venezuela, now would be the time to go full speed ahead – nobody in this administration is going to do jack squat about it. Only Israel remains to deal with iran, and I hope they do so now rather than later.
