Incentives should focus on other sectors-Italy min

ROME Feb 9 (Reuters) - Italy will focus incentives to boost consumer demand on other industry sectors rather than cars, Industry Minister Claudio Scajola said on Tuesday.

"This year we will give incentives to other productive sectors, for cars we will aim to help research and development," Scajola said in a statement.

"Today, talking to ministers from other European countries, I had the impression that there is a common willingness to exit (car) incentives," he said from San Sebastian, Spain. He is attending an informal meeting of European Union industry and competition ministers.

The Rome government has been embroiled in a dispute with Fiat (FIA.MI) over the incentives. Fiat shares fell more than 2 percent after the statement.
