Greece says fuel tax rise will raise 934 mln euros

ATHENS Feb 9 (Reuters) - Greece expects to raise an additional 934 million euros ($1.28 billion) in revenues from an increase in fuel taxes this year, the Finance Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The special tax on fuel is increased in order to boost budget revenues by 934 million euros," the ministry statement said. Deputy Finance Minister Philippos Sachinidis said earlier this month the measure would raise around 1 billion euros.

The tax rise, which will take effect from Tuesday, will bring Greece into line with European regulations. It will increase the price of gasoline by 0.12 euros a litre and diesel by 0.05 euros a litre, the statement said.
