VANCOUVER Feb 17 (Reuters) - Lindsey Vonn of the United States won the Olympic gold medal in the women's Alpine skiing downhill at the Winter Games on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old, who had been struggling with a shin injury before the Games, completed the Franz's downhill course in one minute 44.19 secs.
Several leading competitors failed to finish, including Sweden's Anja Paerson who suffered a spectacular crash near the finish line but was able to walk off the course assisted by marshals.
