Factbox: Security developments in Afghanistan, Feb 20
(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 1100 GMT on Saturday.
HELMAND - A local Taliban commander, Mullah Amanullah, was killed during an Afghan and NATO offensive in the town of Marjah on Friday, the provincial governor's spokesman, Dawood Ahmadi said.
Afghan and foreign troops killed several insurgents during a search operation in the Kajaki district of southern Helmand province, NATO said.
A roadside bomb exploded and killed two civilians riding a motorcycle in the Nahr Saraj district of Helmand province, the Interior Ministry said.
A NATO security patrol shot dead an Afghan civilian when he ran toward it in the Nad Ali district of Helmand, NATO said.
KANDAHAR - Four Afghan civilians were killed when a roadside bomb ripped through their vehicle in the Dand district of southern Kandahar on Friday, the provincial governor's spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi, said.
HELMAND - A British soldier died of wounds sustained in an explosion in the Nahr Saraj district of Helmand province on Thursday, NATO said.
SOUTHERN AFGHANISTAN - A NATO servicemember was killed in small-arms fire in southern Afghanistan on Friday, NATO said in a statement.
KUNDUZ - Four Taliban insurgents were killed when a homemade bomb they were planting went off in the Dasht-e-Archi district of northern Kunduz province on Friday, provincial district chief, Sheikh Sahduddin said.
