Strong 5.9 quake hits off Nicaragua coast

WASHINGTON Feb 24 (Reuters) - A strong 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck off Nicaragua's western coast on Wednesday night, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was centered 37 miles (60 km) southwest of Rivas, under the ocean at a depth of 26.5 miles (43 km). The USGS initially reported the quake had a 5.8 magnitude.

One resident of the capital, Managua, contacted after the the quake, said had not felt anything.
