EU wants to deal with Greece's problems - IMF chief

WASHINGTON Feb 26 (Reuters) - The European Union wants to resolve Greece's fiscal problems on its own but the International Monetary Fund stands ready to help if asked, the head of the IMF said on Friday.

"They want to clean up the situation themselves ... I do believe they are able to do that," IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn told a meeting of the Bretton Woods Committee. "We will do what our members ask us" in terms of providing expertise and support, he added. (Reporting by Lesley Wroughton, Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
