Magnitude 7.3 quake hits off Japan - USGS
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON Feb 26 (Reuters) - A magnitude 7.3 quake struck south of Japan in the Pacific Ocean, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Friday.
The USGS said the quake struck at 5:31 a.m. on Saturday (2031 GMT on Friday) 52 miles (84 km) east of Naha, on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa.
The quake, only 18 miles (29 km) below the seabed, was large enough to trigger at least a tsunami in nearby areas but there was no immediate warning.
