Obama details energy-efficiency plan to create jobs

SAVANNAH, Georgia, March 2 | Tue Mar 2, 2010 12:50pm EST

SAVANNAH, Georgia, March 2 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Tuesday detailed an estimated $6 billion program to generate U.S. jobs through cash incentives for Americans who make their homes more energy efficient, including $3,000 rebates for people who "retrofit" their houses.

"These are big incentives," Obama told a college audience in Savannah, Georgia. "You'd get these rebates instantly from the hardware store, from the contractor." (Reporting by Matt Spetalnick)
