Brazil's Lula: don't push Iran into corner on nukes

BRASILIA, March 3 | Wed Mar 3, 2010 10:37am EST

BRASILIA, March 3 (Reuters) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Wednesday the international community should not "push Iran into a corner" over its nuclear program.

Lula, speaking before a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said "it is not wise to push Iran into a corner. It is wise to establish negotiations."

Clinton's trip to Brazil had been aimed at winning support of Brazil -- a non-permanent member of the U.N. Security Council -- for moves to sanction Iran over its nuclear program.
