Peru may raise rates to fight inflation-cenbank

LIMA, March 3 (Reuters) - Peru's Central Bank could raise its benchmark interest rate "timidly" if it sees inflation creeping up and strong economic growth, the bank's president said on Wednesday.

"If we start removing (the monetary stimulus), the first hike will likely be small," Central Bank president Julio Velarde told reporters, adding that the increase could be of around 0.25 base points.
