Government to spend $25 billion to improve Internet access
NEW YORK |
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Federal Communications Commission's plan to boost Americans' access to the Internet will propose up to $25 billion in new federal spending, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
The FCC's National Broadband Plan is set to be released later this month, offering a blueprint for bringing fast and affordable Internet access to more than 90 million Americans.
The plan aims to help create jobs provide better access to educational and healthcare services.
The Journal, citing several people who have reviewed the plan, said it will also call for a review of competition among broadband providers and the need for more specific pricing data.
