LONDON, March 9 (Reuters) - Wind turbine maker Clipper Windpower Plc CWPR.L said its chief executive had resigned and that it expects to post a loss in the second half partly due to order deferrals and the delayed commissioning of turbines.

It expects to report a second-half loss approaching the interim level.

The group posted a first-half pretax loss of $120.2 million at the end of September when it also announced it was in talks with potential investors that could lead to a "significant investment" in the company. [ID:nLU55476]

On Tuesday, Clipper said Doug Pertz had resigned as CEO after 18 months in the role and appointed Mauricio Quintana as new president and CEO. Quintana was director of corporate strategy and development at United Technologies Corp (UTC) (UTX.N) for the past two years.

Last month, UTC said it was interested in making bigger investments in alternative energy, possibly including a majority stake in Clipper. [ID:nN11136931]

Clipper said it expects revenue in 2009 of about $740 million from the sale of 259 turbines.

It also expects to report an operating loss for the first half of 2010 and positive operating income in the second half leading to approximately break even results for the full year.
