HELSINKI, March 18 (Reuters) - Telecom equipment maker Nokia's (NOK1V.HE) network arm Nokia Siemens Networks [NSN.UL] said it will carry out LTE technology trials for Australia's largest phone company Telstra (TLS.AX).

NSN said in a statement on Thursday that Telstra would test the feasibility and technical capability of long-term evolution (LTE) technology for three to six months, starting in May.

Mobile operators around the world are looking at the new LTE technology for their fourth-generation mobile networks to boost their network capacities and lower costs.

NSN has been working with a large number of customers globally and has already secured nine LTE contracts. (Reporting by Terhi Kinnunen; Editing by Anshuman Daga)
