Justice Department confident health law constitutional
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Justice Department will "vigorously defend" the new healthcare reform law against any lawsuits brought, a spokesman for the department said, after 14 state attorneys general filed challenges to the overhaul signed into law by President Barack Obama on Tuesday.
"We will vigorously defend the constitutionality of the health care reform statute, along with any other claims, in any litigation that is brought against the United States," Justice Department spokesman Charles Miller said in a statement.
"We are confident that this statute is constitutional and we will prevail when we defend it in court," he said.
