Obama: Rights situation in Cuba "deeply disturbing"
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Wednesday denounced recent human rights developments in Cuba as "deeply disturbing."
Obama, in a written statement, cited the death last month of jailed Cuban dissident Orlando Zapata Tamayo and "intensified harassment" of political opponents, and reiterated a longstanding U.S. call for Cuba's communist government to release all political prisoners.
