Philippines says quake moderate, no damage expected
MANILA, March 25 |
MANILA, March 25 (Reuters) - The earthquake that shook the Philippine capital Manila on Thursday afternoon was of moderate strength and was not likely to have caused damage, the country's seismology bureau said.
"It's a moderate earthquake," Delfin Garcia, seismologist at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, told Reuters.
"We don't expect any damage and it's too weak to generate any tsunami"
The United States Geological Survey said the quake was centred 66 miles (100 km) west of the city of Batangas, south of Manila. [nSGE62O060] (Reporting by Manny Mogato; Editing by John Mair)
