White House to announce housing aid Friday

WASHINGTON | Thu Mar 25, 2010 7:22pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House plans to announce on Friday it will require lenders to lower the mortgage payments of some unemployed workers and knock off some principal debt of homeowners who owe more than their home is worth, sources familiar with the plan said on Thursday.

The plan includes at least three months of temporary assistance for jobless workers and incentives for mortgage servicers to write down part of the principal balance, they said.

The plan also aims to increase the Federal Housing Administration efforts to keep people in their homes. It would use remaining funds for the $700 billion bailout to allow borrowers to refinance up to 115 percent of the value of their home.

The principal reduction plan would be administered the existing Home Affordable Modification Plan and is modeled after a principal reduction plan announced this week by Bank of America.

Can we just have the Google Board of Directors take over running our government, they seem to be the only ones left in IOUSA with any courage to make courageous business decisions. The white house is obviously unable to manage this country.
