Market Leader Responds to Strong Industry and Consumer Demand for Securing
Personally Owned Devices in the Enterprise
DUBLIN, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY), an industry leader in enterprise and mobile software,
today announced support for iPad and Android devices with the latest release of
Afaria. With strong consumer adoption of highly functional mobile devices,
enterprises are now able to embrace this widespread demand by providing secure
access to corporate information. With the new ability to secure and manage iPad
and Android, Sybase extends its ubiquitous device support to a list that
includes iPhone, Windows Mobile, Windows, Symbian and BlackBerry.

"The popularity of highly functional smart mobile devices, such as iPhone,
Android and now the iPad, is significantly impacting enterprise mobility support
requirements as these devices increasingly cross over from consumers into the
corporate setting," said Jack Gold, president and principal analyst of J. Gold
Associates, LLC. "The extensive communities currently established around mobile
development will enable a near term and dramatic growth of data-rich deployments
of enterprise-class applications where security and manageability are key
requirements. Companies such as Sybase that exhibit leadership and a deep
expertise in enterprise mobility, security and management, will be required to
drive this emerging evolution in mobile business solutions."

Significant industry developments point to the growing challenges businesses
face in securely managing data across multiple platform and device types. For
example, Android is quickly becoming a highly coveted device for business users,
adding more complexity to the highly diverse mobile enterprise environment.
Additionally, according to a recent survey commissioned by Sybase, the top
reason that U.S. consumers will use a tablet device such as the iPad is to work
while mobile, with the results showing that users want more access to
information and work applications on their mobile devices.

"The number and variety of mobile devices being brought into the enterprise
continues to expand, as does the demand for data-driven applications with
advanced enterprise-ready features," said Gary Kovacs, senior vice president,
markets, solutions and products, Sybase. "We have listened to our customers and
responded by providing our management and security solution for the widest range
of mobile devices. Today`s addition of capabilities for Android and iPad further
extends Sybase`s leadership in delivering the technology required for
organizations to make the most of mobility within their enterprises."

Sybase`s enterprise mobile device management and mobile security solution for
iPad and Android will be available in Q2 in the Afaria 6.5 feature pack, which
will include:

* New ability to manage Android devices from the Afaria console, enabling IT to
configure devices, control password policies, perform remote kill and more.
* Expanded management capabilities including the ability to perform a remote
kill for iPhone and iPad.
* Expanded security to block unknown or non-compliant devices from accessing
corporate assets for the iPhone, iPad, Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile
platforms.
* Enhancements to scalability, ensuring iPhone and iPad management is highly
scalable for on-premise deployments as well as when managed in a hosted
environment.
