Only Wireless Provider to Offer Alerts Without Customer Opt-in Requirement; Free
Service Notifies Customers When Near Monthly Mobile Plan Allotment; Allows for
Retroactive Changes
PORTLAND, Ore.--(Business Wire)--
Consumer Cellular (http://www.consumercellular.com), a national provider of
wireless phones and services, now offers free, automatic mobile usage alerts for
all customers. A first ever in the wireless industry, Consumer Cellular`s usage
alerts do not require a customer to opt-in and are designed to eliminate
unexpected overage fees on phone bills.
How Usage Alerts Work
Consumer Cellular now monitors a customer`s cell phone use on their behalf so
customers do not exceed their monthly wireless plan. Customers are notified with
a Usage Alert when they near their monthly voice, text or data allotment. This
advance notification provides customers the option to pace their usage or
upgrade their wireless plan to better fit their lifestyle. Customers are also
able to change their rate plan retroactively up to the last day of the
customer`s billing cycle, which allows customers to take advantage of the best
possible pricing.
Beginning today, Consumer Cellular customers can select how they prefer to
receive Usage Alert notifications, either by text or e-mail. Customers can also
choose when they would like to be alerted. There are four pre-set levels for
notifications - 75, 100, 125 or 150 percent of their monthly plan. Each Usage
Alert will do three things:
* Notify the customer of their current use and potential to exceed their monthly
allotment;
* Offer the customer recommended next steps given the level of activity and
projected use for the particular billing cycle; and
* Provide an easy way to implement that recommendation.
"Among the most common consumer complaints about wireless providers are required
long-term contracts and outrageous monthly bills due to overage fees. Consumer
Cellular has never had contracts, and now we are offering complimentary Usage
Alerts to ensure our customers have a worry-free cell phone experience," said
John Marick, CEO of Consumer Cellular. "Consumer Cellular takes pride in putting
our customers first and we are confident that Usage Alerts will become one of
our most popular customer benefits."
Customers are never charged a Usage Alert fee nor are there any costs or
penalties associated with updating a plan. If customers do not wish to receive
Usage Alerts, they may also opt-out of this service at any time.
