MARLBOROUGH, MA, Apr 06 (MARKET WIRE) --
Studio artwork isn't just the bastion of Soho lofts. Skinner, Inc.
announced today that its upcoming April Discovery auction will feature a
special offering of Studio Artwork, an attractively varied selection of
American & European paintings, prints, sculpture & works on paper, all
affordably estimated to sell to the highest bidder.
The two day, 1,200 lot auction, to be held at Skinner's Marlborough,
Massachusetts gallery at 274 Cedar Hill Street, kicks off on Wednesday
April 14th at 2 p.m. with over 500 lots of Studio Artwork. Thursday's
session begins at 10 a.m. and features Discovery's usual selection of
American, European, Asian furniture & decorative arts. Highlights include
Victoriana, ceramics, art glass, lamps, and property from a Martha's
Vineyard estate.
According to Skinner Discovery department Director and art appraiser,
Kerry Shrives, "The Studio paintings, prints and sculptures featured in
this auction are better quality works than one might typically find at a
local estate auction. There is a large number of works by well-known and
listed artists, many coming from New England estates. Both the quality of
a piece and an artist's reputation can be key factors in whether or not a
particular work of art retains or increases its value over time."
Continues Shrives, "My advice to beginning art collectors is always know
what you are buying, and who you are buying it from -- are they
reputable? Know how to spot a quality work of art and if possible, try to
learn a bit about the artist who created it. Decide your budget, then,
let your heart and your eyes be your guide. Just buy what you like, what
appeals to you."
Skinner's Discovery auctions are held every month in Skinner's
Marlborough, Massachusetts gallery. They offer the general public the
rare opportunity to learn about art, antiques, and collectibles at
auction, in a relaxed and non-intimidating auction setting. They are a
great way to learn about the value of fine tangibles. All Skinner
auctions are free and open to the public, and offer bidding in person,
over the phone or online at Skinner's website.
