Alzheimer Facility Uses Music as Part of Multi-Sensory Experience
FT. COLLINS, Colo.--(Business Wire)--
CasaTunes, a leader in whole house audio systems, today announced that Cypress
Springs, a residential community for Alzheimer`s and memory support, selected
multiple CasaTunes XLe Music Servers as part of its multi-sensory experience for
its Alzheimer and memory loss residents. Cypress Springs in Tulsa, Okla.
currently uses CasaTunes and plans are underway to install CasaTunes in the new
community being built in Oklahoma City.

As the community is specifically designed for Alzheimer and memory support
residents, Cypress Springs was looking for a music solution where each resident
could play their own music. They did not want to have the same music playing
throughout the 30,000-square-foot community. There are 66 residents and the
music solution had to be flexible. One resident might want to play jazz while
another wanted country.

Cypress Springs uses a variety of options for music and other audio programming
for its residents. One is Companion Music designed specifically for senior
living. Residents find audio entertainment and diversion, regardless of their
functional level all day every day. Companion Music provides four stations. The
Reminiscence Station plays music from the late 1920s to the 1950s, The
Imagination Station offers classic theater programs from days when families
gathered around the radio to listen to their favorite shows. The Serenity
Station is designed for people with dementia-related diseases such as
Alzheimer's disease. Finally, there is the Potpourri Station with continuous
games, exercise classes, senior news, Broadway music and sing-alongs.

Further, the system had to be easy to use and ideally managed from a central
location where the staff can manage not only the type of music but also the
volume. In addition to having CasaTunes in each resident`s room, music is also
played in the activity room.

"Because music can stimulate a positive response in Alzheimer`s residents, we
wanted to offer it to our residents in a way we had not seen in other senior
communities," said Rob Garrett, principal. "We found CasaTunes fit our needs to
be able to play different music in every room. Our residents have responded well
as music helps revive their memories of family, friends, and events from the
past."

Through music, art, interior design, sensory landscaping and a range of
innovative activities, Cypress Springs creates an environment of calm comfort to
help every resident engage in the delights of each day. Multi-sensory
experiences, daily exercise, regularly scheduled outings and group activities
help make residents more comfortable and feel right at home.

The Cypress Springs site development is led by three principals: J. Philip
Brosseau, a developer; Randy Box, a commercial real estate professional; and Rob
Garrett, who has managed the entire Cypress Springs project. Linda Tycher &
Associates, Inc., designed a sensory garden, Carol Lee Brosseau selected artwork
and the Curtis Group Architects developed the architecture and interior design,
all focused on a memory support environment. Seniority, Inc. manages the
community and its services through a team of professionals with decades of
national experience in high quality senior living and memory support care.

"Music is part of the multi-sensory experiences Cypress Springs offers to its
Alzheimer and memory loss residents. The ability for each resident to play
his/her own music in their room enables Cypress Springs to offer this
experience," said David Krinker, CEO of CasaTools. "CasaTunes XL Music Servers
meet this need and make the selection of music by room quick and easy for
staff."

CasaTunes XLe Music Server offers advanced multi-streaming capabilities,
including simultaneous streams of Windows, iTunes® and iPod® music as well as
Internet radio. All CasaTunes XL Music Servers can be controlled using an
easy-to-use browser based interface which currently runs on Internet Explorer,
Safari®, Firefox, and Opera, as well as from the CasaTunes App for iPhone®, a
native iPhone and iPod touch application that can be downloaded from the
AppStoreSM. Unlike traditional music servers, the CasaTunes XL Music Servers
include a hardware based multi-zone switch providing the capability to switch
any stream to one or more rooms, with individual volume level and equalization
setting adjustments for each room. Using hardware to perform the switching
ensures that all rooms, which share the same stream, are perfectly synchronized,
with no annoying delays or echoes.
