BOSTON, MA, Apr 06 (MARKET WIRE) --
WordStream, Inc., a keyword research tool and pay per click software
provider, has published the latest results from its 2010 Search Engine
Marketing (SEM) Pain Points Survey.
WordStream conducted an extensive survey of hundreds of search marketers
across the SEM industry in an effort to determine which aspects of search
engine optimization (SEO) and pay-per-click advertising (PPC) are the
most difficult. The results of the survey revealed that 37 percent of
SEMs view link building as their #1 pain point, followed closely by
keyword research, which 32% of marketers say they struggle with.
For reference, link building is the SEO method of acquiring inbound links
to a website from other websites to improve keyword rankings. Keyword
research is the process of analyzing keywords to determine which will be
the most popular, traffic-driving or profitable search terms to target
for SEO and PPC.
"We're not surprised most search marketers dislike link building and
keyword research," says Ken Lyons, Senior Marketing Manager at
WordStream. "Link building can be very laborious and frustrating, but
ironically it can have the biggest impact on search engine rankings of
any SEM activity. As for keyword research, it's the foundation your
entire SEM campaign is built on, so there's a lot at stake. Do a bad job
here and all your entire SEM campaign will fail."
Additional results of the survey show that most marketers have difficulty
with PPC activities, such as bid management and discovering negative
keywords, as well as trouble effectively creating and optimizing content
for SEO.
