Taiwan stocks extend gains; HTC up after Q1 profit
TAIPEI, April 7 (Reuters) - Taiwan stocks rose 0.52 percent
on Wednesday, hovering at a 10-week intraday high and led by a
surge in smartphone maker HTC Corp (2498.TW) whose first-quarter
profit exceeded its own expectations.
The main TAIEX share index .TWII opened up 41.75 points at 8,131.40, extending a 0.79 percent rise in the previous day.
HTC was the most actively traded stock by turnover. It rose 5 percent (see [ID:nTOE63505K] for more on HTC).
The electronics sub-index .TELI gained 0.6 percent and the financial sector .TFNI edged up 0.3 percent. (US$1=T$31.6) (Reporting by Baker Li, Editing by Jonathan Standing)
