LISBON, April 22 (Reuters) - EDP Renewables (EDPR.LS), the wind energy subsidiary of Energias de Portugal (EDP.LS), said on Thursday its power generation rose 28 percent to 3,639 gigawatt hours (GWh) in the first quarter, boosted mainly by output growth in Europe.
EDPR, the world's fourth-largest wind energy company in terms of installed capacity, said in a statement the generation rise was in line with a 21 percent year-on-year capacity increase to 6,259 megawatts (MW).
The company said power generation in Europe jumped 60 percent from a year earlier.
EDPR has wind generation parks Portugal, Spain, Belgium, France, the United States and Brazil.
It added the average load factor -- a measure of wind turbine output compared with the maximum they could produce -- was at 33 percent in the quarter.
EDPR said it has 1,200 MW of capacity under construction, of which 685 MW are in Europe, 395 MW in the United States and the remainder in Brazil.
The company is due to report first-quarter earnings on May 5.
EDPR shares closed 1.8 percent lower at 5.373 euros before the announcement, outperforming the broader market in Lisbon, which ended the session 2.57 percent lower. (Reporting by Shrikesh Laxmidas; Editing by David Holmes)
