Goldman CEO to attend Obama's Wall Street address

NEW YORK, April 22 | Thu Apr 22, 2010 11:32am EDT

NEW YORK, April 22 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N) Chief Executive Lloyd Blankfein is expected to attend President Barack Obama's Wall Street regulation address on Thursday, a source familiar with the matter said.

Blankfein is to join Gary Cohn, Goldman's president and chief operating officer, at the speech.

In his speech, Obama is expected to urge Congress to press ahead with an overhaul of Wall Street regulations and warn about the risks of another financial crisis if safeguards are not in place.

Goldman on Friday was accused of fraud by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in the structuring and marketing of a debt product tied to subprime mortgages.

The source spoke anonymously because Blankfein's attendance has not been publicly disclosed. (Reporting by Steve Eder; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)

Why wouldn’t Blankfein attend?

The future of his company is on the firing line, and his presence shouldn’t be anything other than self-obligatory.
