New degrees and program options designed to prepare students to work in public
administration, instructional technology, IT and educational leadership
DAVENPORT, Iowa--(Business Wire)--
Kaplan University today announced the launch of its new online Master of Public
Administration and Master of Science in Education in Instructional Technology
degrees, as well as two new emphasis areas and eight accelerated degree programs
designed to prepare students to work in fast-growing fields.

"Kaplan University`s market-driven degree programs are designed to provide a
solid academic foundation and real-world knowledge to help our students enter
new careers or advance into leadership roles in their current careers," said
Wade Dyke, President of Kaplan University. "Kaplan`s innovative online platform
allows students to learn in a flexible, student-centered environment where they
can customize their education to meet their unique needs."

The Master of Public Administration degree is designed to help practicing and
aspiring administrators develop the skills needed to provide leadership in a
wide variety of public service fields. Its curriculum includes evaluation,
implementation and management of policy, as well as ethical and effective
decision-making. Students will have the opportunity to study budgeting and the
administration of public funds, strategic planning and applied research.
Students may also choose an intensive study area in health care management,
governmental management or criminal justice. The degree is designed to prepare
graduates to pursue opportunities in a variety of leadership positions,
including city manager, nonprofit organization director, health service manager
or emergency management consultant.

The Master of Science in Education in Instructional Technology degree focuses on
the design, development and evaluation of instructional programs, materials and
media in a variety of educational training environments. The program includes
specializations in K-12 or adult learning. The degree is designed to prepare
graduates to pursue career opportunities in a wide variety of K-12 and
postsecondary institutions-both online and on-ground-as well as corporate,
nonprofit, military and government organizations. Possible career options for
graduates include an instructional designer in an educational or business
setting, instructional technologist, curriculum developer, educational trainer,
learning and development specialist or manager or project manager.

The new emphasis areas include:

The Educational Leadership emphasis in the Master of Science in Education
program focuses on how to improve the school environment for students, teachers
and the community and enhance student learning. The curriculum follows
nationally recognized leadership standards including the Interstate School
Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC), and emphasizes special needs, diversity
and cultural concerns that face site-based administrators.

The Mobile Computing emphasis in the Bachelor of Science in Information
Technology program focuses on how to develop software applications for mobile
and handheld communication devices. Courses are designed to offer students
advanced training in programming mobile interfaces and Internet and mobile
technologies.

Kaplan University is also offering several new accelerated degree program
options that are designed for undergraduate students interested in earning both
a bachelor`s and master`s degree. The degrees enable students enrolled in a
bachelor`s degree program to complete up to five graduate-level courses in place
of undergraduate open electives. Upon acceptance into a graduate program,
students may then already have these courses completed, and may be able to
finish the program in less time and at less expense.

The new accelerated degree program options include:

* Bachelor of Science in Health Science, accelerated to the Master of Public
Health or Master of Health Care Administration
* Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness, accelerated to the Master of
Public Health or Master of Health Care Administration
* Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Science, accelerated to the Master of Public
Health or Master of Health Care Administration
* Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies, accelerated to the Master of Arts
in Teaching
* Any Bachelor of Science degree within the School of Legal Studies or School of
Criminal Justice, accelerated to the Master of Public Administration

Enrollment for all of these programs begins immediately.
