Houston CPA Society Organizes 30th Annual Financial Reporting Symposium

HOUSTON--(Business Wire)-- The Houston CPA Society, a chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, is gathering authorities from the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and other oversight boards to discuss key issues with preparers and users at the 30th annual Financial Reporting Symposium. The event will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, May 13, 2009, at the Westin Galleria Hotel, 5060 West Alabama. Joining the panel from Houston are * John R. Sult, executive vice president and chief financial officer of El Paso Corporation and CFO of El Paso Pipeline Partners. He previously served as Halliburton Energy`s vice president and controller and is a member of Financial Executives International Committee on Corporate Reporting, and * Phil D. Wedemeyer, partner in the National Professional Standards Group of Grant Thornton LLP, the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton International. Wedemeyer formerly was director of the Office of Research and Analysis of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. He is one of the conference organizers. Katherine Schipper, Thomas Keller Professor of Business at Duke University and former member of FASB, will moderate. Other panelists are * Gregory J.
