Qwest, CenturyTel in merger talks - WSJ Online

SYDNEY, April 22 (Reuters) - Qwest Communications International Inc. Q.N and CenturyTel Inc. (CTL.N) are in advanced discussions on a merger, the Wall Street Journal Online reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The deal would unite two of the largest landline telephone companies in the United States, with operations in some 40 states, but sources warned that a last-minute snag was still possible.
