G7 talks focused on Greece, not yuan -Japan

WASHINGTON, April 22 | Thu Apr 22, 2010 11:17pm EDT

WASHINGTON, April 22 (Reuters) - Finance Ministers from the Group of Seven rich nations did not discuss China's yuan currency in talks on Thursday, while Europe asked the United States and Japan for a show of support on Greece, Japan's Finance Minister Naoto Kan said.

When questioned whether Europe asked for U.S. and Japanese support in rescuing Greece from a deepening debt crisis, Kan said: "Europe expressed such hope, but that is not about money. They seem to have wanted a show of support."

Kan said there was no discussion of the Chinese yuan or financial regulation at the G7 meeting because most of the time was spent discussing Greece. (Reporting by Leika Kihara; writing by Patrick Graham)
