AMSTERDAM, April 27 (Reuters) - Dutch gas transport firm Gasunie said on Tuesday its chief executive Marcel Kramer will resign at the end August, but a successor is not yet known.

Kramer, who joined Gasunie in 2003 after 12 years with Norway's Statoil (STL.OL) and several other international positions, will turn 60 in August and will step down as CEO as per his contract.

"The supervisory board of Gasunie is actively searching for a successor," Gasunie said in a statement.

Gasunie said under Kramer's leadership, Gasunie initiated together with Dutch oil and chemicals storage firm Vopak (VOPA.AS) the Gate terminal project in Rotterdam, the first LNG terminal in the Netherlands.

It also built a major pipeline to the UK (BBL) and became a shareholder in the Nord Stream project, the world's largest pipeline project under construction. (Reporting by Aaron Gray-Block; editing by James Jukwey)
