U.S. House committee investigates Gulf oil spill

WASHINGTON, April 27 (Reuters) - The House Energy and Commerce Committee said on Tuesday it is investigating the response of BP (BP.L) and Transocean Ltd RIGN.S to last week's offshore oil rig explosion.

The committee is requesting documents from both companies related to what was known about the risks of drilling at the site and the adequacy of their emergency response plans. (Reporting by Ayesha Rascoe)
