First-quarter net income increased to $19.7 million, or 29 cents per share, from $16 million, or 23 cents per share a year earlier. Excluding items, Syniverse posted earnings of 45 cents a share.

Revenue rose 36.8 percent to $149 million.

Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose 30.3 percent to $61.5 million.

Messaging services revenues were $47.4 million compared with $9.4 million a year ago. The increase was driven by the company's messaging acquisition, which contributed $41.8 million of revenue in the quarter.

On Oct. 23, Syniverse completed the acquisition of VeriSign's (VRSN.O) mobile messaging business for about $175 million in cash.
