US: UK post-election period won't affect economy

WASHINGTON | Fri May 7, 2010 12:30pm EDT

WASHINGTON May 7 (Reuters) - The White House said on Friday it did not expect post-election uncertainty over the makeup of the next British government to have an economic impact or affect U.S.-British relations.

""I don't think that this period will affect the economy or the special relationship that we have and we look forward to working with whoever is the new PM," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters.

He spoke after Britain's opposition Conservatives said they would try to form a government with the smaller Liberal Democrats after winning the most seats in the closest parliamentary election in a generation. (Reporting by Patricia Zengerle, editing by Matt Spetalnick)
