WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama spoke with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero Tuesday about the need for Spain to take "resolute action" to strengthen its economy, the White House said.

"They discussed the importance of Spain taking resolute action as part of Europe's effort to strengthen its economy and build market confidence," the White House said in a statement describing the telephone call.

"The president expressed the support of the United States for those efforts," it said.
