Research in Motion, Prism settle patent dispute

* RIM accused of violating authentication systems patent

* Prism declines to give details of settlement

VANCOUVER, May 18 (Reuters) - Prism Technologies said on Tuesday it has reached a settlement with Research in Motion (RIM.TO) after it accused the BlackBerry maker of violating one of its patents.

Omaha, Nebraska-based Prism Technologies, whose one-page website says it does "Internet security technology management and licensing," accused RIM of violating a patent having to do with authentication systems.

"As a company we have reached a settlement with Research in Motion and are pleased with the result," A.J. Bahou, Prism's vice president and chief intellectual property officer, told Reuters.

He declined to give any further details.

A representative of RIM could not immediately be reached for comment.

The maker of the popular BlackBerry smartphone has had several legal battles over patents in recent years. (Reporting by Nicole Mordant; Editing by Steve Orlofsky)
