TOKYO May 19 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) will recall about 4,500 Lexus cars in Japan due to steering problems, the Yomiuri daily newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The models in question are also sold in the United States, Europe and China, and a total number of units to be fixed is expected to reach 12,000, the newspaper said.

A recall would cover four Lexus models, including the hybrid LS600hL, it said.

Japan's transportation ministry has received reports of problems in which steering does not work temporarily due to a malfunction in the electric control system, the paper said.

Toyota officials were not immediately available for comment. (Reporting by Taiga Uranaka)
