China urges U.S. to reform export control system

BEIJING May 20 (Reuters) - China wants the United States to reform its control system for exports and increase transparency for investment approvals, Vice Commerce Minister Ma Xiuhong said on Thursday.

Ma made the comments during a meeting with U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke who is visiting China, according to a statement published on the commerce ministry's website www.mofcom.gov.cn. [ID:nSEW002192]

The United States is the world's largest economy, while China is the third biggest, and senior officials from the two countries will be holding high-level talks in Beijing next week. (Reporting by Langi Chiang and Lee Chyen Yee; Editing by Ken Wills)
