ECB's Stark: do not have a weak euro

FRANKFURT | Fri May 21, 2010 11:22am EDT

FRANKFURT May 21 (Reuters) - The euro is not weak, European Central Bank Executive Board member Juergen Stark said on Friday.

Stark told German radio WDR 5 that the ECB's decision to buy government bonds did not mean a loosening of monetary policy.

"It is not the case that we have a weak euro at the moment, the purchasing power of the euro is secured and will remain so," he said.

"Our monetary policy has not changed and the measures we decided on May 9 did not result in a loosening of monetary policy." (Reporting by Krista Hughes and Sakari Suoninen)
