May 27 (Reuters) - OmniVision Technologies Inc (OVTI.O), which makes semiconductor image sensor devices, swung to a fourth-quarter profit as revenue jumped 76 percent, and forecast first-quarter revenue ahead of Wall Street expectations, sending its shares up 10 percent after the bell.
The chipmaker forecast first-quarter revenue of $190 million to $210 million, above analysts' estimates of $170.85 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. [ID:nASA00EQI]
The fabless semiconductor company designs analog and digital single-chip image sensors that capture and convert images for cameras, surveillance systems, games, and videophones.
Omnivision posted fourth-quarter net income of $3.5 million, or 7 cents a share, compared with a net loss $20.1 million, or 40 cents a share, a year ago.
Excluding items, the company earned 18 cents a share.
Revenue jumped 76 percent to $157.2 million.
Analysts were looking for earnings of 17 cents a share, on revenue of $154.59 million.
Shares of Santa Clara, California-based OmniVision were trading up 10 percent at $19.98 in extended trade. They closed at $18.22 Thursday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Mansi Dutta in Bangalore; Editing by Maju Samuel)
