Spill containment could be stalled by a hurricane
WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A hurricane or other severe weather in the Gulf of Mexico could force a suspension of the oil spill containment effort, the Coast Guard said on Monday.
"There may be times when we're going to have to disconnect that operation and re-establish it," Thad Allen, the Coast Guard admiral heading the federal relief effort, told reporters. "This is a long campaign and we're going to be dealing with this oil for the foreseeable future."
