Debate recap: Bird Flu Research

Europe began locking up its one-billion-strong chicken flock on Wednesday after the deadly bird flu virus was found in two more countries on the continent, dealing another blow to battered poultry producers. Germany and Austria are the latest EU countries to report the discovery of dead swans infected with the H5N1 strain of avian influenza, which has spread from Asia to Africa, killed 91 people and led to the destruction of millions of birds. Obama sets publicity push to fight for healthcare

WASHINGTON | Mon Jun 7, 2010 4:49pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama and supporters are embarking on a major publicity push to promote his healthcare overhaul, the White House said on Monday, as they seek to ward off opposition to the plan.

On Tuesday, Obama travels to Maryland for a nationally televised question and answer session on the healthcare plan with older Americans.

The event is timed to come before the first mailing on Thursday of $250 rebate checks to help the elderly pay for medicine, one of the most popular provisions of the new plan.

The session on Tuesday is one of more than 100 simultaneous healthcare events across the United seeking to boost the healthcare program.

At least 20 of the 50 U.S. states have joined a lawsuit seeking to overturn the sweeping reform of the $2.5 trillion U.S. healthcare system. The overhaul was pushed through by Democrats in Congress after months of bitter partisan wrangling.

The states behind the suit, most with Republican attorneys general, claim the Democratic president's healthcare plan violates state government rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and will force massive new spending on hard-pressed state governments.

The New York Times reported that an array of outside groups, including one led by Obama's former communications director, are orchestrating campaigns to echo the White House message and hoping to raise millions of dollars to fund the effort.

How about spending some of this public relations campaign to talk about the real facts that this overhaul has been ill conceived and will bankrupt this country.

Obama, will you tell them how much the CBO was conveniently underestimated on your cost. Will you tell them, they will lose their own insurance. That’s ok, because in November, when you lose your majority, this ludacris health care take over will be repealed & start from scratch. You can keep talking all you want. I’m sure everyone knows thats all you can do. Talk the talk but not walk the walk. How’s that insomnia working for you? didn’t you say “I won’t rest until every american that wants to work is working? How’s that working for all of us!! Just like this oil spill, you keep saying your in charge, but how can you be in charge when you haven’t talked to the commander since it blew up??? talk talk talk.. come on 2012, get this empty suit out of our office along with his comrades!!

How much will this publicity campaign cost the taxpayers?!? Obama ridiculed BP for paying a dividend and running an advertising campaign (publicity campaign) instead of spending that money on the oil spill. Isn’t the President doing something worse? The USA does not have money to spend on publicity, we are broke!! At least BP is profitable. OBAMA, please stop wasting out tax dollars and stop putting us deeper into debt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
