US gold rises to all-time highs on safe-haven play

NEW YORK, June 8 (Reuters) - New York gold futures rallied to
all-time highs above $1,250 an ounce on Tuesday as jittery
investors piled in amid fears that euro zone credit contagion
could stunt global economic growth.

GOLD

* U.S. gold futures for August delivery GCQ0 on the COMEX
division of the NYMEX up $11.10 at $1,251.90 an ounce at 10:31
a.m. EDT (1431 GMT).

* Ranged from $1,238.50 to $1,254.50 an ounce - an all-time
high.

* Gold boosted by heightened investor risk aversion, steadily
sinking euro and EU sovereign risk which appears to be spreading
to non-EU nations - James Steel at HSBC.

* Finance ministers from the debt-stricken euro zone sought to
restore financial markets' confidence by agreeing how to deploy a

* The California State Teachers Retirement System, the No. 2
U.S. pensions fund, has approved a plan to invest in commodities,
indicating passive investors were still keen on oil, metals and

* Spot gold XAU= at $1,250.05 an ounce against $1,238.05 an
ounce late Monday in New York.

* London afternoon gold fix XAUFIX= at $1,246 an ounce.

SILVER

* COMEX July silver SIN0 up 19.80 cents, or 1.1 percent, at
$18.360 an ounce as gold rises to record highs.

* Ranged from $18.085 to $18.450 an ounce.

* COMEX estimated 10 a.m. volume at 21,216 lots.

* Spot silver XAG= at $18.39 an ounce from late previous
session's quote at $18.09 an ounce.

* London silver fix XAGFIX= at $18.34 per ounce.

PLATINUM

* NYMEX July platinum PLN0 up $7.30 at $1,524.60 an ounce on
short-covering and broad-based metals' gains.

* Spot platinum XPT= was at 1,516.50 an ounce.

PALLADIUM

* September palladium PAU0 up $9.15, or 2.1 percent, at
$439.50 an ounce on platinum's coattails.

* Spot palladium XPD= was at $436.05.
