FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 9 (Reuters) - South Florida lawyer Scott Rothstein was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Wednesday for masterminding a Ponzi scheme that bilked clients out of more than $1 billion.

The sentence was more than the 40 years federal prosecutors had recommended for Rothstein, who perpetrated what local media reports have described as South Florida's biggest investment fraud. (Reporting by Tom Brown, editing by Jane Sutton)
